This medal shows St Jean Baptiste de la Salle in prayer before a Bible and crucifix with the inscription in French ” Bienheureux Jean Baptiste de la Salle Priez Pour Nous” (Blessed Jean Baptiste de la Salle Pray for Us). The reverse shows the Virgin Mary in a cloud of stars and standing on a snake, symbolizing her victory over satan.? This inscription is also in French and reads “Aucune Tache N’est En Vous” (There Is No Stain on You), referring to Mary’s lack of original sin.
St Jean Baptiste was a French priest who lived from 1651 to 1719. He dedicated his life to education, particularly the teaching of poor children.? He founded the order of Christian Brothers which was the first Catholic teaching order that did not include priests. He is the founder of Catholic schools as we know them today.
It was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
