This unique medal of St Elizabeth Ann Seton shows her in her order’s nun’s habit featuring a bonnet and cape. The original was cast to celebrate the beatification of Mother Seton (the step before sainthood), so it reads “Blessed Elizabeth Ann Seton” rather than “Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton”
The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
Elizabeth Seton was born in New York City in 1774 to a wealthy Episcopal family. At age 19 she fell in love and married William Seton. They had 5 children. After 10 years William’s business failed, and he developed tuberculosis. They sailed to Italy to seek a cure, but William died during their trip. While there, Elizabeth was drawn to Catholicism and soon converted. Elizabeth and her children moved to Baltimore where she founded the first free Catholic school and began the religious order, The Sister’s of Charity. Although she took religious vows, provisions were made so she could still raise her children. She died of tuberculosis in 1821 at the age of 46.
