This beautiful medal features St Stephen holding a book containing the gospels and the rocks that were used to stone him to death at his martyrdom. The inscription reads “St Etienne” with is the French spelling of St Stephen. The reverse shows a depiction of his death.

St Stephen was the first Christian martyr. After being made a deacon of the church in Jerusalem, he began to preach the gospel to crowds in the streets, making enemies of the Jewish authorities. He was accused of blasphemy; when while speaking in his own defense, he claimed to see a vision of Jesus at the side of God . This caused an uproar, and he was dragged out of the city and stoned to death. One of the witnesses to his execution was Saul of Tarsus who watched the coats of those doing the stoning. Saul was later converted and became St Paul, one of the greatest Christian missionaries ever.

The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
