Description

This medal shows St Lawrence with a palm branch, a book, and the griddle that was the instrument of his martyrdom. The reverse shows St Michael killing satan in the form of a dragon.

Lawrence was a deacon in Rome during the 3rd century. After the beheading of Pope St Sixtus II he was left as the leading church official in Rome. Knowing he would also soon be killed, he used his remaining time in donating the wealth of the church to the poor. When asked to appear before the emperor with the church’s treasure, he arrived with a crowd of sick and lame people and announced that these were the true treasures of the church. He was martyred by being roasted to death on a griddle. When asked if he had had enough of his torture, he replied “You can turn me over. I am done on this side.”

In the New Testament St Michael the Archangel led the angelic forces against Satan, casting him out of heaven forever. Because of this he is know as a heavenly protector against all types of evil and danger. He is the patron of police and frequently invoked by people in the military.

It was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
