This beautiful medal shows St Barbara holding a sword and a palm branch in one hand a a chalice with a host in the other. In the background you can see the castle that plays a part in her legend.
The legend of St Barbara states that she was a beautiful maiden who was imprisoned by her father in a high tower for disobedience. While there she received a fine education and converted to Christianity. Later, when her father was away, she had three windows cut into her tower to honor the trinity. When her father learned of her conversion and the changes she had made to the tower, he denounced her to a local tribunal who sentenced her to death. She escaped, but her father tracked her down and beheaded her. He was immediately struck by lightening and killed as a heavenly punishment for his actions.
The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA
