This medal features St James dressed as a pilgrim. He holds a walking staff in his hand and wears a hooded cape. St James is associated with pilgrims because there is a very popular and ancient pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, which is a church dedicated to him in Spain.
St James was the brother of St John and one of the first followers of Jesus. He and John were fishermen who left their nets and their father on the shore of the Sea of Galilee when Jesus called them to follow him. He became on of the twelve apostles. Many legends and traditions grew up around his relics, the most famous being the devotion shown to him at Santiago de Compostela which is the end of a popular pilgrimage route.
It was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
