This hard to find vintage St Genesius medal shows the saint in a toga with the inscription “St Genesius – Patron Actors Musicians”
St Genesius was an actor in ancient Rome. He and his acting troop specialized in plays that mocked Christianity. One day they had the honor of performing for the emperor Diocletian. As Genesius knelt to receive a mock baptism, he suddenly had a true conversion experience and came to believe in Jesus Christ. When he stopped the play and announced what had happened to him, Diocletian became enraged and had Genesius tortured to make him recant. Genesius refused and died a martyr to his new faith.
The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA
