Description

St Cecilia was also a young Roman woman. She pledged her virginity to God, but her parents forced her into marriage with a pagan man. Cecilia converted both her husband and his brother to Christianity, and the brothers began to help others by giving a proper burial to Christian martyrs. They were both martyred for this action. Cecilia had them buried in her villa, and was arrested herself. She was offered a pardon if she would sacrifice to pagan gods, but refused and was martyred for her faith.St Agnes was a young Roman girl was told she must sacrifice to pagan gods. She was only 12 years old when she was taken to the Temple of Minerva and forced to the altar. When she refused to sacrifice, she was threatened with rape. She still refused to sacrifice to the pagan gods and was martyred for her faith in the year 254 or 304 (sources vary).
