This medal shows St Sophia of Rome kneeling in prayer before three crosses. St Sophia, or as it is spelled on the medal St Sophie, was a young woman martyred in the persecutions of Diocletian in the 3rd century. Based on her feast day of May 15, St Sophia become one of the “Ice Saints”, the saints whose feast days are traditionally associated with the last possibility of frost in Central Europe.
St Sophia is the patron against late frosts and for the growth of crops.
The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
