Size: a little under 3/4 inch
Material: Sterling silver
The front of this medal features St Joan wearing her armor with a crown of laurels on her head, symbolizing victory. The inscriptions are in French: “Ste Jeanne D’Arc PPN” (St Joan of Arc Pray for Us) on the front, and “Joan of Arc Patron of Soldiers of France Protect Me” on the reverse.
The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
As a teenager Joan heard the heavenly voices of several saints instructing her to go help the king reclaim France from the English. At age 17 she was given a small army and captured the city of Orleans. She went on to have several amazing military victories. She attended King Charles VII’s coronation in Reims, but the next year she was captured and sold to the English who put her on trial for heresy and witchcraft. Joan’s answers her prosecutors with wit and bravery. Ultimately she was convicted of wearing men’s clothes (which she wore because they protected her modesty from her male guards) and burned at the stake in 1431 at age 19.
