This unique medal shows St Gertrude of Nivelles , who was an abbess, standing with her abbess staff and holding a book. She was known for her hospitality to pilgrims and her devotion of the souls in purgatory. She is associated with cats because she was often called upon to ward off illness and rodent infestations. On the side and top edges of the medal are small images of rodents.
The back of the medal includes an engraving and the date 1935.

The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
