Our Lady of La Salette is a Marian apparition reported by two French children to have occurred in the French Alps in 1846. On August 21, 1879, Pope Leo XIII granted a canonical coronation to the image. A Russian-style tiara was granted to the image instead of the traditional solar-type tiara used in depictions of Our Lady during apparitions.
This unique medal is from France and one side shows Our Lady of La Salette appearing to the two children wearing the Russian-style tiara. The French inscription reads “Si mon peuple ne veut pas se soumettre” which means “If my people do not want to submit.” This was the beginning of Mary’s message which warned about difficult times if the people did return to the Faith and Christ.
The other side of the medal shows a traditional presentation of Mary. The inscription reads “N(otre) D(ame) de La Salette Reconciliatrice des Pecheurs” which means “Our Lady of La Salette Reconciler of Sinners.
Our Lady of La Salette is the patron of France.
