This striking medal shows St Arnold holding a crozier and wearing a bishop’s miter on the front. The reverse is inscribed “Sir De Tiegem” which is an abbreviation in French for “Souvenir of Tiegem”. Tiegem, Belgium was the diocese of St Arnold.
St Arnold was a bishop and abbot of a monastery where he brewed beer for the local population. He encouraged the people of his area to drink beer instead of water because of its health benefits! The people realized that there was less sickness after drinking beer rather than water and thought it was because of St Arnold’s divine intervention. Actually the beer was healthier was because it was heated while being made, killing the bacteria.= Because of his love of beer, St Arnold is the patron of brewers and beer-drinkers. He is still honored in Belgium at Beer Festivals throughout the country.
The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA
