This medal features a dramatic and beautiful portrayal of St George on horseback slaying the mighty dragon. The reverse shows a ship being tossed on the sea during a storm. The inscription reads “In Tempestate Securitas” which is Latin for “safety in storms”. (St George was often called upon for help by sailors.)
According to the legend of St George, a dragon was terrorizing the countryside near Silena, Libya. The local people tried to appease the dragon by feeding it livestock of every kind. When this didn’t work they decided to feed the dragon a young maiden, but George arrived in time to hear of their plan. He crossed himself and rode into battle against the creature, killing it with a single blow. He then gave a sermon and converted the local population to Christianity.
In reality St George was a Roman soldier born to a Christian family. He served the emperor Constantine, but when Constantine demanded that all his soldiers sacrifice to pagan gods, George refused. Constantine tried to change the young man’s mind, but George held firm and was martyred for his faith around the year 304.
The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA

The loop at the top of the medal can’t fit on my necklace. I wish you had a bigger loop on the medal. Very frustrating, beautiful piece that is large but it has to go on a small necklace.

Not sure how thick is your the chain you want to put the medal on. A jeweler should be able to put a larger ring on the medal so you could wear it on a thicker medal.

The Medal is excellent quality and it came the an Awesome Card with a very vibrant colorful pic of St. George slaying the Dragon on one side and the History of St. George on one on the other. These are awesome cards and really contribute to the medal and what it stands for. I like to carry the medal with me as a reminder. Love it and all it stands for.

According to the USPS tracking system your medal was delivered on Friday. It is very frustrating that the Post Office took so long to get the medal to you. My guess is that when we dropped it off at the Post Office on January 21, they misplaced it. While it took much longer than it should have, the good news is that you received it.
