This small medal shows St Bernard of Clairvaux (not the mountain climbing Saint Bernard!) holding the tools of the crucifixion. The reverse shows a beautiful image of the Virgin Mary and the dead Christ.
St Bernard was born to French nobility. He dedicated his life to Christ at an early age; and when he turned 22, he joined the Benedictine abbey of Citeaux along with 25 friends. He became well known for his preaching and wisdom, and was an advisor to King Louis the Young and Pope Eugene III, who was originally a monk in Bernard’s abbey. Each day he would ask himself “Why have I come here” and respond with the phrase “To live a holy life”.
The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
