St Yves began studying civil and canon law in Paris at the age of 14. He became a third order Franciscan and after finishing school, he practiced in both ecclesiastical and civil courts. He often represented his clients for free and ministered to them while they were in prison. After he was ordained in 1284, he quit the practice of law to devote his life to his parish. As a priest he assisted the poor, founded a hospital, and used the harvest from his own lands to feed the hungry. He died in 1303.
