Description
This gorgeous medal shows St Patrick holding his bishop’s crozier (staff) with his arm raised in blessing. His name, Saint Patrick, is in a Gaelic script around the border.
St Patrick was born in Britain around 380. As a teenager he was kidnapped by pirates and sold into slavery in Ireland where his owner put him to work tending the sheep. It was a lonely job, and Patrick turned to God to during this time and developed a strong faith. He escaped his master and caught a ship back to Britain where he became a priest. After becoming a bishop he volunteered to return to Ireland to teach the people there about Christianity since he spoke their language and knew their customs. He is credited with many miracles and is especially remembered for driving the snakes out of Ireland. During the 33 years he was there, he converted the entire country.
The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
