This medal features the Our Lady of Lourdes with the French inscription at the bottom “N D [Notre Dame] de Lourdes” (Our Lady of Lourdes). The reverse shows St Bernadette kneeling in the grotto of Lourdes before the Virgin Mary.

St Bernadette was only 14 when she received a vision of a “beautiful lady” in a grotto near Lourdes, France. The lady asked her to come once a month to visit her there, and when Bernadette asked who she was, she responded that she was “The Immaculate Conception”. This dogma was unknown to the uneducated Bernadette, but confirmed that the “lady” was the Virgin Mary. At Mary’s request, Bernadette dug a small hole in the grotto that turned into a large spring. Many people have been miraculously healed after bathing in the water at Lourdes, and the spring is still visited by thousands of people seeking healing today. Bernadette became a nun and died in 1879.

The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
