This special medal features St John the Baptist as a child. He’s holding a lamb to symbolize Christ, the lamb of God. The other hand holds a tall cross and banner.
St John the Baptist was a cousin of Jesus and the son of Mary’s relative, Elizabeth, and her husband, Zachariah. God appointed John to prepare the way for the coming of Christ. The Bible tells us that he lived simply, wearing goat skin and eating locusts and wild honey. He baptized many people and had a large group of followers; however, after he baptized Jesus, he stepped back from his ministry and told his followers to follow Jesus instead, saying “He must become greater, I must become less.” (John 3:30) John was later imprisoned by King Herod and beheaded at the request of Salome, the daughter of Herod’s wife, Herodias.
The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
