Although he worked very hard, he became depressed, thinking that he would never succeed. In response the Virgin Mary sent him a vision on which she held a wreath of roses representing the rosary. She instructed him to spread devotion to the rosary, say ti every day, and teach others about i for the church to triumph. He is known for spreading devotion to the rosary throughout the Catholic church. He died in 1221 with a reputation as a holy man and a miracle worker.
