This beautiful medal shows St Anne, the mother of the Virgin Mary, with Mary (as a child) standing at her knee. St Anne has a book in her lap and her hand is raised in instruction, since Catholic tradition holds that the Virgin Mary was an educated woman who was taught by her mother.
St Anne was the mother of the Virgin Mary and the grandmother of Jesus. Catholic tradition states that Anne and her husband Joaquim had a difficult time conceiving a child. Anne was visited by an angel who told her that they would have a baby. She then promised to dedicate her child to God. Images of St Anne traditionally show her teaching Mary since there is a tradition that Mary was an educated young woman.
The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA
