St Joseph was chosen by God to have the honor of being the spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the earthly father of Jesus.? According to legend he was a carpenter or stoneworker who probably also taught Jesus his trade.? He was a descendent of King David which fulfilled the prophecy that Christ would be born from David’s lineage.? The Bible tells of two times he was visited by angels.? Both times he was quick to do the will of God, once by marrying Mary although she was already pregnant, and the other time by taking Mary and Jesus to Egypt to save them form the wrath of King Herod.? He was a just and righteous man and is a model for all Christians.
