This unique medal shows St Nicholas performing a miracle in which he restored life to three boys who had drowned in a barrel. He was popularly known for this miracle during the middle ages.
St Nicholas was bishop of Myra (now Turkey) in the 4th century. He was famous for his kindness and generosity to the poor. According to legend he threw three bags of gold through the window of a poor man’s home to pay for his three daughter’s dowries and was said to have raised three murdered boys back to life, leading to his being the patron saint of children. He also miraculously released three innocent men from prison, making him the patron of thieves. On his feast day, December 6, children in many countries put their shoes to be filled with sweets and toys by St Nicholas.
The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
