This beautiful stylized cross features the Virgin Mary as she appeared in Lourdes, France, in the center. She is standing with her hands folded in prayer and with a rosary draped over her arm in front of a background of small stars. Four fleur-de-Lis, the symbol for France, are tucked in the arms of the cross. The reverse is inscribed in French, “Souvenir de Notre Dame de Lourdes” (In Remembrance of Our Lady of Lourdes).
The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
St Bernadette was only 14 when she received a vision of the Virgin Mary near Lourdes, France. Although she was an uneducated peasant girl, she spoke about seeing a”beautiful lady” who told her she was the “immaculate conception” (This was a recent church doctrine referring to Mary about which Bernadette could have had no idea.) Many people have been miraculously healed after bathing in the spring dug by Bernadette at Lourdes, and the grotto of her visions is still visited by thousands of people seeking healing today.
