This beautiful medal features St Martin of Tours raising his hands in blessing and wearing his bishop’s miter. The reverse shows the apparition of the Virgin Mary to St Bernadette in Lourdes, France.
St Martin of Tours was a Christian who was forced into the life of a soldier. He served in the Roman army probable as a cavalry officer assigned to Gaul (now France) He is most well know for having cut his thick military coat in two with his sword when he saw a cold beggar in the road. Having no money to give the man, he gave half the cloak to the beggar and kept half for himself. Later he saw a vision of Christ wearing the cloak and understood the value of his charity. He later became and monk and was chosen Bishop of Tours, France.
The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
