This medal features St Bruno in prayer with his head bowed and arms crossed. The inscription around the edge is in French and translates as “St Bruno Pray for Us”. The reverse features a globe topped with a cross and a Latin inscription.
St Bruno lived in the 11th century. He was a very educated man who was the director of the cathedral school in Reims, France, and later chancellor of the archdiocese of Reims. After he received a vision that encouraged him to remove himself from the world to devote his life to study and understanding God, he moved to the mountains new Grenoble, France, where he founded the Carthusian Order. St Hugh of Grenoble gifted him with a chateau that became La Grande Chartreuse, the seat of the Carthusian Order. Monks still live lives of silence and prayer in this large monastery. Since 1737 they have supported themselves through the sales of Chartreuse liqueur.
The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
