This beautiful medal shows St Bridget of Sweden holding a candle to represent the light of Christ. The reverse is blank.
St Bridget was born in 1302 and raised by a wealthy Christian family in Sweden. She married a nobleman at age 13 an went on to have 8 children. She was a lady-in-waiting to Queen Blanche and used her position to counsel the queen and King Magnus to be guided by Christ in their positions. After her husband died she became a religious and received many visions, her most famous one being a vision of the birth of Christ. She was ridiculed and isolated for deciding to leave her position at court but pursued her dream of being a nun and eventually founded the Bridgettine Order in 1346. She went on pilgrimage to Rome and stayed there to council Popes Clement VI, Gregory XI, and Urban VI. She died in Rome in 1374 and was buried at her convent in Sweden.
The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
