Father’s Day is almost here, and this year I’m ahead of the game. I’ve already gotten my dad his card! It has a fish wearing a tie on the front and inside it says, “I hope you like this Father’s Day Cod.” (I love a bad pun.) But I haven’t gotten him a gift yet, so if you’re also still looking for that perfect Father’s Day present, Rosa Mystica is here to help with some Father’s Day ideas and a special selection of medals that have been curated especially with dads in mind.
The go-to saint for dads is St Joseph, husband of the Virgin Mary and earthly father to Jesus. He knew what it was like to work hard for a living, provided for his family and is the perfect roll model for any Dad. Rosa Mystica Medals has just gotten in several new St Joseph designs, and I love them all. I’ve worked hard to find unique depictions of St Joseph that are in different styles so there is something that will appeal to everyone.
There are many military saints that might be perfect if your dad is in the military or is a veteran (like mine!). St Ignatius, St Martin of Tours, and St Maurice were all soldiers at some point in their lives. For Air Force dads there’s the beautiful “Our Lady of Flight” medal that shows Mary with wings on the front and an airplane propeller on the reverse. And for dads who were in the navy, Stella Maris, Our Lady of the Sea can be a perfect pick.
There is a saint for any profession, really, ANY profession. Maybe this is the way to go for your dad! There are St Yves and Thomas More for lawyers, St Raphael and St Luke for doctors, St Barbara for engineers and builders, St Mark for accountants, and St Christopher for dads who have to travel a lot for work. The list of patron saints for occupations is endless, so if you don’t see a saint for your father’s job please shoot us an email and we can help you find one!
Perhaps you think your dad needs a little heavenly protection or guidance. St Michael the Archangel is always there to protect us against temptation and guide us in God’s path. St Benedict is also known as a protector from harm, and his medals always have the beautiful St Benedict’s cross on the reverse. St Michael is also known as the patron saint of police officers – your heavenly cop!
Maybe your father has a favorite pastime. St Andrew and St Anthony are the patron saints of fishermen. St Hubert is the patron saint of hunters since he encountered God when he saw a crucifix between the antlers of a stag he was hunting, and St Sebastian, the patron saint of athletes, is perfect if your father loves to play sports, or maybe just loves to watch others play sports. Is your dad a hiker or skier? Then St Bernard will be perfect for him.
Hopefully this list will help give you some guidance as you search for the perfect Father’s Day present this year. Happy summer!
